I accidentally threw away my drivers permit?

I was taking segment two and i brought a separate folder so i could keep everything i needed together. Eventually that folder turned into my homework folder but i kept my permit in it so I could drive from school. At the end of the year i thought i had retrieved what i thought was my permit but it turned out to be the instruction side of it. Not the actual permit itself. I didn't notice this until I had thrown the folder away for garbage day the the next morning. If i get a temporary permit can i still get my license with that?
