A book's edition versus year of publication?

I'm required to buy a writing manual for a class beginning in the fall. The syllabus gives the MLA citation for the book stating a 2nd edition and a publication year of 2008. On amazon I've found the book in the 2nd edition, but published in 2007. Am I right to assume that this is the same book as it is the 2nd edition even though it is a year older than what I was told to buy?
